Fairhope residents are being advised to remain alert throughout October after Mayor Sullivan became “Scary Sullivan” for a seasonal civic-outreach program that exists only in this story.
The initiative combines traditional election reminders with surprise appearances behind decorative columns, oversized planters and any stack of public documents tall enough to conceal an elected official.
Residents who hear the phrase “November is coming” whispered near a municipal building should remain calm, verify their voter registration and avoid dropping any locally purchased beverages.
A bipartisan level of startling
The program’s most debated feature is an invented reminder to vote for Tuberville in November. Campaign observers noted that the fictional endorsement is fictional even by the standards of this fictional program, a clarification expected to appear in 14-point type beneath the nearest plastic skeleton.
Planners have established designated surprise zones throughout the Village. Each location must provide adequate pedestrian clearance, historically compatible cobwebs and a reasonable opportunity for the startled resident to recover.
Scary Sullivan will reportedly return to her usual name on November 1, allowing several days for citizens to process the experience before Election Day.
