Nonconforming Fairhope is published by a team of Fairhope residents who genuinely love this community—its beauty, its history, its people and even its occasionally complicated relationship with parking, paint colors and architectural guidelines.

Written from inside the joke

This publication comes from a place of affection. Fairhope is a wonderful town, but it is also a town filled with wonderfully specific customs, concerns and contradictions. Those little niches are simply too good not to examine—and occasionally make fun of.

The stories published here use satire to celebrate the personalities, institutions and everyday absurdities that make Fairhope unmistakably Fairhope. The goal is never cruelty or needless personal attacks. It is to help the community laugh at the things we all recognize, preferably before the next committee meeting begins.

Independent by design

Nonconforming Fairhope is independently owned and is not affiliated with the City of Fairhope or any government agency, business or civic organization. Stories identified as satire or fiction should be read accordingly.

Fairhope is home. This is just how we show our affection.

How we work

Our editorial standards explain how we label fiction, use public records, distinguish facts from jokes and handle corrections.
